Data Mining

Data mining is the process of collecting data through use of custom traversal algorithms, pattern matching, and scraping techniques. The data stored can be analyzed, manipulated, or presented in any way desired.

The techniques applied in data mining can be applied to a number of different industries, including marketing, e-commerce, customer relationship management, healthcare, science, genetics, financial services, and much more.

Two practical examples:

Example 1.

We used a combination of Data Mining and Data Migration to populate a customers product catalog with over 30 million products offered by various suppliers.

Example 2.

We developed a process to calculate bandwidth totals produced by network appliances, which allowed for the customer to in-turn bill their tenants for this traffic.

Example 3.

To help a client build their jobs database, we wrote an application to populate their initial database with jobs from other websites. This script was automated to run for approximately 1 hour per day until the client had over 20,000 jobs in their database.

Technique speaking, during the data mine process we analyze our targets and deduce patterns in content or structure of the information. When a pattern is defined, we will apply a regular expression on the content to extract all relevant pieces of information. The extracted information is stored in a database.
